The Liar

Pierre Corneille's 1644 Le Menteur, in a contemporary translation by David Ives (All in the Timing), follows Dorante, a new arrival to Paris who just cannot tell the truth (hence the title...get it?). Containing mistaken identities, physical comedy, and cleverly phrased rhyming couplets, this is one of the great comedies of the Western world. Costume design by Kathleen O'Brien. Directed by Russ Marcel. This comedy will be performed in the Carney Outdoor Amphitheatre on the west side of Bellarmine's central Quad. There is a great view from every seat, and all positions are shaded in the afternoons. The seating consists of cement benches (without back support), so stadium-style seat cushions and/or blankets to sit on are recommended. While no concessions will be sold at the performances, the beautiful Quad behind the venue provides a wonderful location for pre-event or post-event picnic-style eating. Masks are not required at these performances. A limited number of wheelchair accessible spaces with adjoining attendant seats are available for each performance. If you require them, contact Sobrato Theatre house manager, Marc McGee, at mmcgee@bcp.org before purchasing your ticket(s) to verify those spaces are still available.
